This lens is made for shooting wide open at f/4.5 where it's opening is not affected by the diaphragm shape. This lends to it's lovely Bokeh. Highly corrected and for a professional working with a constant magnification from 1:2 to 3:1 this is your lens. Once dialed in it rivals any lens but does takes some fiddling to get it perfect for each magnification. It is a very expensive lens, still made today. You can get infinity focus when adapted correctly, even on a Nikon and it covers full frame sensors with lots of room to spare.
The images below were shot hand-held at slow shutter speeds on a partly cloudy day. Imagine what this lens, a tripod and good lighting could do. An image stackers dream. The Macro Varon lens is very very sharp. The last 4 pictures show the full frame and an extreme crop so you might appreciate how sharp it is... shot wide open... hand-held!!!
